Demand for Scotland's most spectacular cycling event has once again proven unstoppable, with Etape Loch Ness 2026 officially selling out months ahead of the start line. The 12th edition of the iconic closed-road sportive, taking place on Sunday 26 April 2026, will see thousands of cyclists descend on the Highlands to take on the stunning 66-mile route around the world renowned Loch Ness.
Community groups and organisations in the Highlands and Glasgow have secured more than £270,000 to boost sport and physical activity opportunities through the Get Active Scotland fund.
Launched in September 2025 with Olympian Megan Keith, Get Active Scotland is a £1.1 million collaboration between the London Marathon Foundation, sportscotland, Glasgow Life and High Life Highland – it’s one of the largest funds focused on increasing participation in physical activity in Scotland.

Over 6,000 cyclists took to the Scottish Highlands today for the 11th edition of Etape Loch Ness, completing the stunning 66-mile route around the world-famous Loch in what was a truly unforgettable day of cycling, scenery and solidarity.
This Sunday, more than 6,000 cyclists will gather in Inverness for the 11th edition of the Etape Loch Ness, ready to ride what is widely regarded as the pinnacle of UK closed-road sportives.
The tenth edition of the Etape Loch Ness took place today, with 5,650 cyclists from 24 countries signing up to take on the 66-mile closed-road sportive.
Since the first Etape Loch Ness in 2014, over £2 million has been raised for the event’s official charity Macmillan Cancer Support, with £210,000 raised so far by Team Macmillan riders in 2024.
The Etape Loch Ness 2023 has been hailed a success after 6,000 cyclists from 20 countries signed up to take on the 66-mile closed road sportive.
63-year-old Gerard McLarnon from Randalstown, County Antrim, has successfully completed the 2022 Etape Loch Ness after a long battle with Covid-19 which saw him hospitalised for 70 days, 57 of which in ITU and 40 days on a ventilator. It left him having to learn how to walk, talk and swallow again.
